Pain From The Sciatic Nerve
Sciatica Pain Relief
Sciatica is a very common symptom in America today! Sciatica is inflammation of the Sciatic nerve. The Sciatic Nerve is made up of the lumbar nerve roots and it travels down the back of the leg to the foot. Sciatica can be mild or debilitating! It can also be caused by various different underlying conditions such as; vertebral subluxations, bulging discs, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, degenerative joint disease, facet inflammation, piriformis syndrome, neuromuscular imbalances to name a few. It is important that each patient has a thorough evaluation in order to figure out what is causing their particular case of Sciatica.
Dr. Dickason has found that there are a few particular Chiropractic techniques that Sciatica patients usually respond really well to and there are a few techniques that do not help much with Sciatica. Being able to find the underlying problem, allows Dr. Dickason to know which technique to use and this allows him to get quick and effective results with Sciatica patients.
Causes of Sciatic Nerve Pain
Typically sciatica is caused by a vertebral subluxation irritating the nerve root at the spine, though any cause of irritation or inflammation of the sciatic nerve can produce the symptoms of sciatica. Aside from a pinched nerve from a vertebral subluxation there are other causes that can cause sciatic nerve pain which include irritation of the nerve from adjacent bones, disc bulges and/or herniation, tumors, muscle, internal bleeding, infections and injury to name a few. The incidence of sciatica increases in middle age, rarely occurring before age 20 and peaks at age 50 then declines. There typically isn’t one particular injury or event that will cause sciatica, rather it develops over time.
Treatment of Sciatica
There are few symptoms that may require immediate medical, and potentially surgical, treatment. These few symptoms include progressive neurological symptoms (leg weakness) or bladder dysfunction. Because sciatica is caused by an underlying condition, treatment is focused on relieving the primary cause of the symptoms. A very good way to treat this is through chiropractic care. Regular adjustments can help relieve compression. Along with adjustments there are other approaches a chiropractor, like Dr. Dickason, would take.
